**1. The Journey of the Soul & The Divine Promise —

The True Foundation for Removing the Fear of Death**

The fear of death becomes weak and powerless

when a human being understands his true beginning.

A human’s journey is not accidental,

nor does it begin suddenly.

It is a purposeful, structured, and deeply wise journey

that starts with Allah’s command:

“كُن فَيَكُونُ”

“Be — and it is.”

When this truth settles into the heart,

death no longer remains a “terrifying ending” —

it becomes a return.

And this understanding forms the foundation of this entire chapter.

1. The Promise the Soul Made to Allah

Before coming into the world, the soul made a magnificent covenant with Allah:

﴿ أَلَسْتُ بِرَبِّكُمْ ﴾

“Am I not your Lord?”

And every soul replied:

﴿ قَالُوا بَلَى ﴾

“Yes, indeed You are!”

This was the very first moment

when the soul affirmed the Lordship of Allah

— with complete awareness, certainty, and recognition.

This covenant is known as

“Ahd-e-Alast” (The Covenant of ‘Am I not your Lord?’).

This promise is the center of a human’s entire life.

It is the foundation upon which our faith, worship, character, purpose, and afterlife stand.

Two central commitments were included in that promise:

️ To affirm Allah as the One & Only Lord

️ To remain firm upon His obedience after coming into the world

This is the true purpose of life.

2. Why Were We Sent Into the World?

The world is not the original home —

it is a place where the soul is sent to learn, remember, and rediscover its reality.

We promised Allah before arrival,

so we were sent into the world so that we may:

️ Remember that promise

️ Understand the world for what it truly is

️ Recognize who we really are

️ Gain the knowledge and recognition of our Lord

After birth, humans forget everything —

this is part of the test.

Then, until puberty, the human is given full time to learn.

That is why accountability only begins after puberty,

because at that time:

— Intellect becomes complete

— Awareness becomes clear

— Intentions become conscious

— Decisions become independent

3. What Is the Entire System of Religion?

The entire religion —

the Qur’an, Hadith, Shariah, the life of the Prophet ﷺ, and the missions of all Prophets —

has one purpose:

️ To remind the human being of the promise he made

️ And to show him the path on which this promise can be fulfilled

This is why:

— Prophets were sent

— Messengers were appointed

— The final Prophet ﷺ was sent as a mercy

— The Qur’an was preserved until the Day of Judgment

Religion brings the human back

to the covenant he made with Allah.

4. After Puberty the Real Journey Begins

Puberty is that threshold where:

️ The soul begins addressing the matured body

️ The intellect becomes fully aware

️ The distinction between good and evil becomes clear

️ The ability to carry responsibility is established

️ The “exam paper” officially begins

Before puberty → Mistake = Innocence

After puberty → Mistake = Accountability

This is why the record of deeds starts after puberty.

5. Whoever Follows What the Prophets, Imams and Awliya Taught…

The truth is:

Whoever follows the path shown by the Prophets, the Imams, and the Awliya

becomes prepared for the journey back.

Allah says:

﴿ فَاتَّبِعُونِي يُحْبِبْكُمُ اللَّهُ ﴾

“Follow me (the Prophet), and Allah will love you.”

Meaning:

️ Following the Prophet ﷺ = The easiest path of return

️ His way = The guarantee of success

️ His Sunnah = The power to stay firm upon the Promise

6. How Long Do We Stay in This World?

Our stay in this world is not random —

every soul has a fixed duration.

Allah says:

﴿ لِكُلِّ أَجَلٍ كِتَابٌ ﴾

“For every term there is a written decree.”

When that moment arrives,

the exam paper is submitted.

7. The Real Task — Protection and Steadfastness

“Until time ends, we must protect our promise

and remain firm upon it.”

This single line captures the entire religion.

Allah says:

﴿ فَاسْتَقِمْ كَمَا أُمِرْتَ ﴾

“Remain steadfast as you have been commanded.”

Hadith:

“After me, the most important thing upon you is steadfastness.”

Steadfastness = Fulfilling the promise

Steadfastness = Remaining straight until death

Steadfastness = True success

Conclusion

️ The soul made a covenant with Allah

️ We came to the world to remember that promise

️ Puberty was granted as the time to learn

️ Prophets & Qur’an keep reminding us

️ Whoever follows their path — return becomes easy

️ Death is not an end — it is submission of the exam paper

️ True success = Promise + Steadfastness

2. What Is Death? — The Qur’an’s Comprehensive Definition

The Qur’an does not describe death as annihilation

but as transition.

﴿ كُلُّ نَفْسٍ ذَائِقَةُ الْمَوْتِ ﴾

“Every soul shall taste death.”

This single verse gives three deep truths:

1. Death is a taste — not extinction

A taste is momentary and passes.

So death is a moment, not an ending.

2. Death is universal

Every soul will experience it equally —

whether king or beggar.

3. Real life begins after death

This world is temporary;

the real result comes after death.

The Qur’an further says:

﴿ اللَّهُ يَتَوَفَّى الْأَنْفُسَ حِينَ مَوْتِهَا ﴾

“Allah takes away the souls at the moment of their death.”

Meaning:

️ The Owner of death is Allah

️ The Receiver of the soul is Allah

️ The Giver of life is Allah

️ The Protector after death is Allah

Then what is there to fear?

3. Why Does the Human Fear Death?

The fear of death is not due to death itself —

but due to:

1. The fear of the unknown

The unseen frightens the mind.

2. The burden of sins

Sins darken the heart.

The darker the heart, the greater the fear.

3. Excessive attachment to the world

If the heart is attached to the world,

leaving it becomes difficult.

4. Shaytan’s whisper

His greatest attack is:

“You are not ready… what will happen now?”

5. Lack of preparation for the Hereafter

4. How the Qur’an Completely Removes the Fear of Death

(1) Death is fixed — neither early nor late

﴿ لِكُلِّ أَجَلٍ كِتَابٌ ﴾

“Every lifespan has a fixed decree.”

Nothing can change it

— not fear, not precautions, not danger.

(2) For a believer, death is easy

The Prophet ﷺ said:

“The soul of a believer comes out

as smoothly as water flows from a leather bag.”

No pain —

only ease.

(3) Death is “return,” not separation

Allah says:

﴿ ارْجِعِي إِلَىٰ رَبِّكِ ﴾

“Return to your Lord!”

Returning always brings comfort.

The soul’s origin is Allah —

it is only returning home.

(4) Death is “meeting” Allah

Hadith Qudsi:

“My servant desires to meet Me,

and I also desire to meet him.”

Death = Meeting

not destruction.

5. What Happens After Death?

1. The Departure of the Soul

Hadith describes:

️ A righteous soul exits like fragrance

️ Angels bring heavenly silk

️ The gates of heaven open

️ The soul is carried with honor

The wicked soul experiences the opposite.

2. The Grave — Barzakh

The grave is the door.

Barzakh is the home.

The Prophet ﷺ said:

“The grave is either a garden from the gardens of Paradise

or a pit from the pits of Hell.”

For the righteous:

️ Expansion

️ Light

️ Peace

️ Fragrance

️ Company of angels

For the sinful:

️ Narrowness

️ Darkness

️ Fear

3. The Day of Judgment — The Final Court

Worldly courts may be unjust —

but Allah’s court is:

️ Perfect

️ Exact

️ Fair

️ Without error

4. The Hereafter — The True Life

World = Short

Grave = Intermediate

Akhirah = Eternal

Paradise → Light

Hellfire → Outcome

Whoever lived straight —

everything will be easy.

6. The Complete Spiritual Cure for the Fear of Death

Cure 1 — Viewing Life as an Exam

Life = Exam

Death = Submission of the paper

Those who understand this fear less;

those who forget fear more.

Cure 2 — Repentance

The Prophet ﷺ said:

“The one who repents is like the one who never sinned.”

A clean heart = less fear

A dark heart = more fear

Cure 3 — Remembering Death Often

The remembrance of death:

️ Breaks pride

️ Weakens worldliness

️ Softens the heart

️ Awakens the eyes

️ Strengthens faith

️ Reduces fear

Cure 4 — Love of Allah

Love removes fear.

The one who loves Allah

sees death as meeting, not loss.

Cure 5 — Trust in Allah (Tawakkul)

﴿ أَلَيْسَ اللَّهُ بِكَافٍ عَبْدَهُ ﴾

“Is Allah not sufficient for His servant?”

This verse extinguishes every fear.

Cure 6 — Steadfastness

The one who walks straight

never fears death.

Steadfastness = Protection

Steadfastness = Strength

7. What Is Death in Reality?

️ Moving from an old house to a new one

️ A journey like the womb → world

️ Freedom of the soul

️ Beginning of real life

️ Meeting

️ Peace

️ Completion

For the believer, death = victory

not loss.

Final Prayer

O Allah!

Remove from our hearts every unnecessary fear of death,

and grant us the certainty

that You gave Your beloved servants.

O Allah!

Grant us firmness upon the Covenant of Alast.

Illuminate our souls,

brighten our graves,

and make our return easy.

O Allah!

Teach us to fear sin —

not death.

O Allah!

Make our death comfort,

our grave a garden,

and our Hereafter success.

Ameen, O Lord of the Worlds.
