Introduction

The greatest fear that stops us in life

is not death…

not poverty…

but:

“What will people think of us?”

This fear:

️ Turns off our inner light

️ Makes people’s opinions our judge

️ Steals courage and truth from us

️ Creates hesitation even in good actions

️ Produces weakness, anxiety, and self-doubt

This fear is one of Shaytan’s strongest weapons.

1. Why does the fear of people exist inside us?

We human beings carry three psychological weaknesses:

1. We want praise

Our heart wants people to appreciate us.

2. We want to avoid criticism

Our heart does not want anyone to speak ill of us.

3. We want to protect our “image”

We create a persona

and then fear its collapse.

These three weaknesses make us

prisoners of people.

2. The Qur’an: People can NEVER be pleased with us

Allah revealed the truth of human beings in one ayah:

﴿ وَلَنْ تَرْضَىٰ عَنكَ الْيَهُودُ وَلَا النَّصَارَىٰ ﴾

“The Jews and the Christians will never be pleased with you…”

(Al-Baqarah)

And this reality applies to all people:

️ We do good → people suspect

️ We do wrong → they criticize

️ We stay silent → they guess and gossip

️ We succeed → they become jealous

️ We fail → they mock

It is impossible to please people.

So why fear them?

3. Honor and disgrace are in the hands of Allah — not people

Allah says:

“You honor whom You will, and You disgrace whom You will.”

Meaning:

 People do not give honor

 People do not give disgrace

️ Honor → is from Allah

️ Disgrace → is from Allah

If Allah makes the decision,

why are we afraid of people?

4. The true identity of fear — Boss’s central point

The primary function of fear is:

“To stop action.”

But there are two kinds of fear:

1️⃣ If the fear is from Allah → bad actions stop

️ This fear prevents sin

️ Saves us from wrong steps

️ Weakens the ego

️ Strengthens faith

️ Makes good deeds easier

This fear is light.

Allah says:

“Do not fear them — fear Me.”

2️⃣ If the fear is from Shaytan → good actions stop

️ Good deeds become difficult

️ Worship feels heavy

️ Speaking truth becomes hard

️ Standing for justice becomes difficult

️ Courage disappears

This fear is darkness.

The Qur’an says:

﴿ إِنَّمَا ذَٰلِكُمُ الشَّيْطَانُ يُخَوِّفُ أَوْلِيَاءَهُ ﴾

“It is only Shaytan who frightens you through his allies.”

Summary

Allah’s fear → stops evil

Shaytan’s fear → stops good

This is the real identity of fear.

5. The Prophet ﷺ taught us: Ignore people’s talk

The Prophet ﷺ said:

**“Whoever acts for Allah,

should not care about what people say.”**

This one hadith liberates the heart.

️ Intention for Allah

️ Path of the Sunnah

️ Help from Allah

️ The outcome in Allah’s hands

Then why fear people?

6. All Prophets faced the worst accusations — yet triumphed

People accused every Prophet:

️ Prophet Nuh (AS) → “mad, misguided”

️ Prophet Ibrahim (AS) → thrown into fire

️ Prophet Musa (AS) → called a magician

️ Prophet Isa (AS) → denied and rejected

And our beloved Prophet Muhammad ﷺ —

People called him at times a magician,

a poet,

a soothsayer,

and many other things.

But Allah answered:

“And We have elevated your mention.”

The world accuses —

Allah grants honor.

7. People’s opinions are a test — not a verdict

Allah says:

“We will surely test you with some fear…”

This includes the fear of:

️ What will people say

️ What will people think

️ How will people judge

This is a test,

not a conclusion.

8. The reality of people — worldly experience

The reality is:

️ People do not think deeply — they just talk

️ They judge without knowing the truth

️ They forget yesterday’s gossip today

️ They speak to hide their own weaknesses

️ They never completely approve of anyone

People’s opinions are like:

Changing winds —

different every moment.

Why should we anchor our hearts to something so unstable?

9. True honor comes from the heart — not from tongues

People can speak anything,

but true honor comes from:

️ Character

️ Morality

️ Intention

️ Steadfastness

️ Sincerity

️ Fear of Allah

Tongues are temporary —

Allah’s verdict is eternal.

10. Freedom from the fear of people — real power of life

When we finally understand:

 People are not our owners

 People are not our providers

 People are not our judges

 People cannot write our destiny

️ Allah is the true Helper

️ Allah is the true Giver of honor

️ Allah is the true Decider

️ Allah is the true Protector

Then our heart is filled with:

️ Peace

️ Courage

️ Strength

️ Certainty

️ Freedom

We say with confidence:

“People don’t matter —

the real decision is Allah’s.”

This is the true strength of faith.

11. Cure for the fear of disgrace — in Qur’an and Sunnah

1. Purify intention

A deed done for Allah never results in disgrace.

2. Adopt steadfastness

One who walks straight

does not fear anyone.

3. Strengthen the heart through dhikr

Dhikr is light — it removes whispers.

4. Hand over your past to Allah

People forget —

Allah forgives.

5. Place your future in Allah’s hands

People cannot stop you

if Allah opens the path.

6. Bow before Allah — not before people

Bowing before Allah is honor,

bowing before people is weakness.

Final Prayer

O Allah!

Free us from the fear of people,

and keep us alive only in Your fear.

O Allah!

Keep us firm upon truth,

do not let our hearts shake because of people’s opinions,

and grant us the strength

to walk on the path

that may bring criticism from the world

but brings pleasure to You.

O Allah!

Grant us the honor

You granted Your Prophets and Saints,

and bless us with the courage

that You give only to Your sincere servants.

Ameen, O Lord of the Worlds.
